Matea Benedetti is a renowned sustainable fashion and costume designer. As a pioneer of sustainable luxury fashion, she has won several awards for her work.
She was born in 1975 in Koper, Slovenia, but lives in Ljubljana. After completing Secondary School of Design in Ljubljana, she graduated from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering in 2004 with a degree in Textile and Fashion Design. She also studied at the Utrecht School of the Arts. Since 2008, she works as a professor at the Faculty of Design.
In 2019, she founded Benedetti Life, a brand focusing on sustainable luxury fashion using only natural, vegan and organic materials. Matea Benedetti designs clothes made of the highest-quality materials without animal ingredients, such as pineapple leather, bamboo, organic wool silk and recycled material. Devoted to bringing fashion back to nature, Matea Benedetti’s brand helps to spread awareness of the damage the fashion industry is causing to our planet. Each of her collections serves as a tribute to endangered species, at risk of extinction due to human activity, climate change and fashion industry.
Benedetti Life products have been presented on some of the world’s most prestigious red carpets, such as the Oscars, the Venice Biennale, the Cannes Film Festival, and featured in leading fashion magazines, such as Elle, Vogue and many others.
In 2018, Benedetti Life was awarded the Symbol of Excellence and the Butterfly Award for Sustainability, Ethics and Luxury, while Matea Bendetti received the Positive Luxury Award. In 2020, she was named Best Designer by Elle magazine. Benedetti Life was presented with Best Luxury Vegan Fashion Brand in 2021.
