GO! BEES - The First Cross-Border Bee Route in Europe

Between the protagonists of GO! 2025 there will be bees! An important initiative has been launched: Go! Bees, born from the collaboration between the municipalities of Gorizia and Nova Gorica, the EGTC GO and other important local entities such as Confcommercio, the Beekeepers' Consortium, the Comel Museum and the Mitteldream association. This program was also joined by individual citizens with their enthusiasm and experience. The core of the initiative is the first European Cross-Border Bee Route, a map of the territory on the two sides of the border which highlights the sites where bee-friendly plants have been planted. The inauguration is scheduled for Saturday, May 18, at 11:30 a.m. in Via Cappella. Thus, the European Capital of Culture is giving a strong message for the protection of bees and the preservation of the environment, especially because about 70 percent of the food crops and almost 90 percent of the wild plants depend on the daily pollination carried out by these small insects.

The Go! Bees activities will start before the inauguration of the Bee Route, with another significant initiative: from Thursday 16 to Sunday 26, it will be possible to enjoy the "The Dishes of the Beehive", a gastronomic selection organized by more than thirty restaurants and shops in Gorizia and Nova Gorica. This is the first time in the history of the two cities that such a program is organized. There are plenty of irresistible menu proposals, which range from breakfasts to after dinner cocktails and full tasting menus, all including ingredients produced by bees. Within the framework of the program there are also massages and beauty treatments offered by specialized studios.

This month, there will be exhibitions, window displays and many other events related to May 20, which is the International Bee Day, aimed at raising awareness about the importance these pollinators, the threats they face and their contribution to sustainable development.
