Paal Nilssen – Love: Circus
Concert by Paal Nilssen-Love as part of the October Jazz Festival.
Saturday, October 26th 2024
Juliana Venter (vocals), Thomas Johansson (trumpet), Signe Emmeluth (alto saxophone), Kalle Moberg (accordion), Christian Meaas Svendsen (double bass), Paal Nilssen-Love (drums)
After five years, Paal Nilssen-Love returns to the Oktober Jazz stage with a sextet and a musical narrative for Circus, inspired by the musical treasures of Ethiopia and Brazil. He has also long been fascinated by the music of Mali and Senegal.
Initially, the group performed with a conventional set list, with a predetermined order of pieces, but now Nilssen-Love likes to shake things up a bit by improvising as freely as possible, although it is still all based on scores. So anyone in the ensemble can play any part of any song at any time. Sometimes it happens that the group plays parts of three different songs at the same time. You are invited to participate in the organised chaos that brings their performances to a rapturous escalation, clapping and often dancing.
The concert will be followed by a tasting of natural orange and red UOU wines made from grapes from the consortium’s abandoned vineyards.
The concert is in collaboration with Controtempo from Krmin and the Jazz&Wine of Peace festival. Tickets cost 25 €.
