Screening of the film "City on the Meadow"

When Primorska was annexed to Yugoslavia, Gorizia remained in Italy. On the Yugoslav side, construction of the new Gorizia began in 1948. For years, the town stood like a skeleton in the middle of an empty space, on an abandoned cemetery next to the old Frnaža, on an immensely wide street that led nowhere. The people who moved there from all over soon realised that they were in the "Wild West" and that they would have to build Nova Gorica themselves.

This documentary video essay tells the story of the city's origins and raises questions about its identity and vision at a time when the border is once again losing its meaning. It is told by its inhabitants and those who helped build it in one way or another.

Cities are spaces of exchange. Not only an exchange of goods, but also an exchange of memories, stories and desires. These are what make each city different and unmistakable. Nova Gorica and Gorizia. Two cities in the same place. Two and a half cities. - Anja Medved and Nadja Velušček.

After the screening of the film, there will be a discussion with the filmmakers Nadja Velušček and Anja Medved.
