33rd edition of the Alpe Adria Puppet Festival, an international and borderless puppet-theatre event.

The 33rd edition of the Alpe Adria Puppet Festival, an international and borderless puppet-theatre event, was designed and organised by Centro Teatro Animazione e Figure di Gorizia (The Animation Centre and Puppet Theatre of Gorizia). The artistic director of this year’s edition, Roberto Piaggio, presents the theme of “Illusions”. This Festival, one of the longest-running borderless theatre events, has always aimed to showcase the many characteristics of puppet theatre. In recent years, it has expanded, doubling its programme and embracing new European projects that recognise the ongoing search for new expressive forms and connections between puppet theatre and other forms of art.4

This year, the first part of the festival will take place from August 19 to 23 in Grado, a traditional puppet-theatre location. The shows will also be organised in the towns of San Floriano del Collio, Cividale del Friuli, Gradisca d'Isonzo, and San Canzian d'Isonzo. These events are particularly suited for families, both Italian and foreign.

The second section, also appropriate for both adults and children, is scheduled from October 1 to 6 in Gorizia and Nova Gorica and will focus on new trends and innovations in European puppet theatre.

During both sections of the festival, the first part of two special projects will unfold: Art&Puppets, funded by the European Union within the Small Project Fund GO! 2025, and Transport, funded by the Creative Europe 2021-2027 programme. Discover the full programme at https://puppetfestival.it/en/.
