The exhibition is intended for the general public and has the aim of making people understand how speleology contributes to the knowledge of the territory, to its protection, a fundamental support for geology, archaeology, paleontology, zoology, etc.

Scientific speleology and karst hydrogeology were born at the end of the 19th century in the territory between Trieste, Divaca and Postojna and even today, in this territory and in the other numerous karst areas of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, exploration and research on the underground world are very active.

For almost 50 years the numerous speleological groups in the Region have been organizing conferences to exchange information on explorations and research results, also to involve the population in their activities.
