ECHOS OF THE DIVINE Duke Ellington's Sacred Concert

ECHOS OF THE DIVINE Duke Ellington's Sacred Concert

SHIPYARD BIG BAND M° Flavio DAVANZO - conductor Alba NACINOVICH - singer THE NUVOICES PROJECT - choir Director M° Rudy FANTIN

Edward Duke Ellington composed between 1965 and 1973 (the year before his death) three important works that combined elements of jazz, classical music, choral music, spirituals, gospel music and blues exploring the spiritual side of his music. He called these pages “The Sacred Concerts,” declaring that they were the most important music he had ever written. These are music of extraordinary beauty on which the “Duke” worked with special devotion, personally taking care of both the arrangements for Big Band and choir and the texts inspired largely by the Old and New Testaments. The project features the Shipyard Big Band orchestra, a mixed choir and a solo singer.
