GORIZIA DESIGN WEEK

GO! DESIGNWEEK: Nova Gorica – Gorizia European Capital of Culture 2025 means design, too!

The exhibition FIBER ART & TEXTILE DESIGN is visible through different spaces in the two cities of Nova Gorica and Gorizia (Auditorium della Cultura Friulana, Go! Center, Agorà, The Good Store, Carinarnica) and presents design objects selected through an open call dedicated to under 40s and the works of young contemporary artists from the B#S nursery of IoDeposito ETS. On display there are also famous contemporary design objects and Connections, a carpet in progress by the Slovenian group Oloop Design. The theme was chosen for the symbolic aspect of weaving as expression of union and connection between humans, a set of connected urban knots, a seam between two peoples.

The selected works offer a cross-section of design today, reflecting in the microcosm of the province the trends underway at a global level:

• participatory design, where the creation of an object becomes a factor of social cohesion and personal growth;
• conscious design, where critical attention to consumerism leads to the assumption of responsibility for the entire life cycle of the product;
• design and craftsmanship, where manual skill and personal involvement are the key to interpretation. The artists, in turn, express themselves on some of the hottest contemporary themes through the use of fibre art, including African renaissances, local, projects and prototypes investigating the world of textiles, criticism of consumerism and evocations of care. 

‘Red threads’, stretched across time and space to mend a memory at risk of extinction, connect the visitor to events of universal significance. The aim of this experience is to update the state of the art on the most innovative uses and trends of fibre art: for a culture without borders between nations, as well as between disciplines.
