IN4SAFETY Civil Protection Cross-Border Exercise

The cross-border Civil Protection exercise is organized by ISIG – Institute of International Sociology of Gorizia, Gasilska Enota Nova Gorica, and the Municipality of Gorizia, in collaboration with the Regional Civil Protection of Friuli Venezia Giulia and other Italian and Slovenian partners.

The cross-border exercise will involve civil protection units, firefighters, and rescue teams in the Gorizia and Nova Gorica area. The initiative will bring together project partners and associated partners from various countries, aiming to test and improve coordination and emergency response in a cross-border context.

A key aspect of the exercise is the involvement of local communities, with the goal of promoting a culture of resilience, raising awareness of risks in the area, and improving two-way communication between authorities and citizens. The initiative is part of the effort to enhance the culture of resilience within the framework of the European Capital of Culture 2025, highlighting the role of cross-border communities in building safer and more resilient territories.

The IN4SAFETY project, funded by the Interreg Italy-Slovenia program, promotes climate change resilience and more effective emergency management through cross-border cooperation. As part of this project, an innovative training and exercise program is being proposed, involving the municipalities of Gorizia (ITA), Nova Gorica, and Šempeter-Vrtojba (SLO).

The cross-border civil protection exercise will bring together various participants from Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, and Croatia, aiming to strengthen cross-border collaboration among authorities, civil protection operators, and citizens, while fostering interoperability and the sharing of strategies.
