Insects on the Menu: Let's Bite into the Future

Workshop on the food of the future.

Did you know that some nutrition researchers agree that mealworms could become the food of the future? No, they are not magic worms, they are the larvae of a beetle (Tenebrio molitor) and they are a real protein bomb. In nature, they are industrious scavengers, feeding on wood and organic debris. They are also cultivated as food for reptiles, birds and even fish—but why shouldn't we try them?

The workshop for children aged 9-15 will take place on 10 April 2025 at 17:00. The European Union has approved wetfish as a novel food, which means we can eat them in soups, chips, pancakes and even chocolate! It may sound crazy, but we promise it will be fun and interesting. Together, we'll explore why insects are a more sustainable choice than meat and make something special. We'll make our own pad thai and mochas—pancakes with mozzarella and different spreads. Who will have the courage to take the first bite? 

The workshop is led by Nastja Ambrožič, an experienced trainer and educator who creates playful and interactive workshops at the intersection of science, art and technology. The workshops encourage curiosity, critical thinking and daring to test the unknown. 

This workshop is not suitable for children who are allergic to dust mites or crustaceans. Please inform us about other allergies when registering.
