MATTADOR INTERNATIONAL SCREENPLAY AWARD DEDICATED TO MATTEO CAENAZZO / LAUNCH OF THE 16TH CALL FOR ENTRIES & LECTURE ON CINEMA AND SCREENWRITING

MARE FUORI: A Bridge between Generations - The stories, hopes, courage and desire for redemption of a group of young inmates in a juvenile prison overlooking the sea, who explore friendship, love and dreams of a better future. The MATTADOR PRIZE is aimed at Italian and foreign screenwriters, directors, illustrators and concept designers, aged between 16 and 30, with the objective of discovering and promoting new talents who have chosen the screenwriting profession. The authors are offered the opportunity to express their creativity and develop their projects in close contact with international tutors who accompany them on their artistic and professional path, train them in technical skills, help them to promote their work and to adapt to the cinema and audiovisual working environment by creating a wide network of young professionals in the field.

The Mattador Cultural Association was founded in Trieste in 2009 with the aim of organising the Mattador International Scriptwriting Award, dedicated to Matteo Caenazzo, a talented young man with a diploma in pictorial decoration from the Liceo Artistico Nordio in Trieste and a degree in Cinema from the Ca' Foscari University in Venice. He passed away prematurely on 28 June 2009 while studying and working with the aim of becoming a scriptwriter. Since the outset, the Association has been committed to setting up a solid structure with a high cultural and professional profile, capable of carrying out innovative and multidisciplinary activities throughout the year, drawing on a wide range of experience and distinguishing itself from other projects for its unique and original approach under the guidance of qualified and well-known professionals with a focus on training initiatives for young authors. Thanks to fifteen years of activity, hundreds of participants from all over Italy and abroad at each edition, cash prizes and qualifying training grants, lectures and conferences, the publication of books, the production of short films, contemporary art prints and exhibitions, Mattador is acknowledged as the ‘most important national screenplay award for young competitors’.

The Launch of the 16th Call for Entries opening the 16th Edition, will include the Lecture ‘MARE FUORI Un ponte tra generazioni’ (‘A Bridge between Generations’), the presentation of the 8th ‘Ananian/Mattador Prize’ to two deserving authors from Friuli Venezia Giulia, the presentation of the third volume of the Proceedings of the 4th Conference ‘I Dialoghi di Mattador’ (The Mattador Dialogues’, entitled ‘Il colpo di scena tra adattamento e nuove creatività’ (‘The Coup de Théâtre between Adaptation and New Creativity’, edited by Fabrizio Borin and Paolo Quazzolo - Ed. EUT), held at the DAMS of Gorizia in collaboration with the Universities of Trieste and Udine, and the Amidei Prize, with the patronage of the Municipality of Gorizia and GO! 2025.
