THE BRIDGE OF MEMORY – REMEMBERING Concert-Story-Image Michele, Joško, and the Others

Stories of young people across borders, like the two visionary mayors Michele Martina and Joško Strukeli, who brought Gorizia closer to Nova Gorica. Carla Manzon, voice Gianni Fassetta, accordion Lyrics by Romeo Pignat Narrative voice and accordion, against the backdrop of period images from various archives, retrace a century of Gorizia's history: from the years immediately preceding the First World War, when the Central European myth of the Nice of Austria was consumed as a flame, to the dramatic events that led in 1947 to the ‘Gorizia wall’ and then to the progressive opening between Italy and Yugoslavia.

A tale that traverses the destiny and sufferings of Gorizia's border, studded with symbolic and exemplary young figures: from Carlo Michaelstaedter, with his precocious prophetic thinking, to Michele Martina and Joško Štrukelj, the two mayors of Gorizia and Nova Gorica who, with their capacity for dialogue beyond ideological walls and state diktats, contributed to the fall of the ‘iron curtain’.

An experience of continental scope that created the preconditions for Nova Gorica-Gorizia European Capital of Culture 2025.
