My Apothecary

Workshop on how to create your own home apothecary.

On Thursday, 23 January 2025, from 17:00 to 19:00, a workshop entitled My Apothecary will take place at the Xcentre.

A home pharmacy has always been an important part of every household. Today, herbalists (and many grandmothers) are familiar with traditional herbal techniques, which are used to extract medicinal substances from plants and mushrooms that are preserved in the extract "forever". Because we consider it important that such knowledge is maintained and that everyone can prepare their own home remedy, we are hosting a workshop on the topic of medicinal extracts at the Laboratory for the Future of Food Bio/n, which will be led by the herbalist Vita from the Floravita Institute.

At the My Apothecary workshop, we will take our first steps into the world of phytopharmacy – we will learn what medicinal extracts are, how and which ones we can make by ourselves and how we can use them as a dietary supplement to improve health. We will pay special attention to the different needs and reactions to active substances and the importance of self-observation to determine which ingredients and combinations are most suitable for our body.

About the mentor: Vita Matjac, a master of sociology, a passionate gatherer, certified herbalist, farmer, versatile artist and much more, has been studying the use of edible wild plants, herbs and mushrooms in everyday nutrition and medicine for many years, and exploring the diversity of their use and storage. Through practice, she explores the revived process of "domestication" of wild plants, herbs and mushrooms as part of an extensive and complex modern eco movement, i.e. the rediscovery of the hidden potentials of nature.

The workshop is free of charge and suitable for adult participants.
