Painters of Gorica

The Gorizian Masters exhibition is a homage to the Gorizian painters of the last century.

A celebration of art that tells the soul of a border territory: this is the spirit of the exhibition ‘Gorizian Masters’, staged at the Trgovski dom, which offers an extraordinary journey through the works of the greatest Slovenian painters of the 20th century in Gorizia.
The event, organised as part of the ‘Art Vetrina Trgovski’ project, sees the collaboration between the Damir Feigel Library and the Gorizia KB society.

A showcase that not only celebrates the past, but also looks firmly towards the artistic future of this land rich in creativity. Art Vetrina was created with the aim of promoting the works of young talents from the Gorizia context and, at the same time, of keeping alive the memory of the great masters whose work is part of the KB society's prestigious artistic collection.

The exhibition, hosted in the Damir Feigel Library in the Trgovski dom, reflects the commitment to the enhancement of the visual arts and the strengthening of a shared and hybrid cultural space that has always characterised Gorizia.
The city's artistic history is rooted in the past: in 1924 the Circolo Artistico Goriziano, under the leadership of art historian Antonio Morassi, organised the first major Gorizia art exhibition.

Both Slovenian and Italian artists participated, including Veno Pilon, Lojze Spazzapan, Ivan Čargo, Metod Peternelj, Sergej Hočevar, Sofronio Pocarini, Italico Brass, Gino de Finetti, Vittorio Bolaffio and Sergio Sergi.

The current exhibition pays homage to these protagonists of the art scene, displaying works by Pilon and Čargo alongside those of Zoran Mušič, Avgusta Šantel, Rudolf Saksida, Silvester Komel, Demetrij Cej, Riko Debenjak and Pavle Medvešček. The selection bears witness to the continuity and diversity of expression in a culturally and historically complex area.
