For 2025, the Speleological Federation of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region in cooperation with the Geological Service of Friuli Venezia Giulia Region has chosen Gorizia as the site for the regional speleological meeting.

A way to value karst area of the Region, important groundwater reservoir. Two of the most important karst areas in the region (the Classical Karst and M.t Canin/Kanin), are sites of a cross-border aquifer with Slovenia. And this is not the only case: we share with Veneto the Cansiglio Karst and with Austria that of Timau.

The conference could also be an opportunity to discuss the problems of these areas. In addition to the topic of water and speleology, there will be a session dedicated to environmental studies of karstic cavies, important for biodiversity and studies on climate and palaeoclimate, and a more technical session on how to rapresent cave spatial development.

Scientific culture and promoting cave heritage. A meeting among cavers of the region Scientific speleology and karstic hydrogeology originated at the end of the 19th century in the area between Trieste, Divaca and Postojna, and even today, exploration and research into the underground world is very active in this area, as well as in the other karst areas in Friuli Venezia Giulia.

For almost 5O years, the Friuli Venezia Giulia autonomous Region's caving groups have organized meeting to exchange information on explorations and research results, and also to involve the population in their activities.
