Night of Short Films

On the winter solstice and the shortest day of the year, December 21, 2024, the Night of Short Films will take place across Slovenia and, once again, cross-border. This event celebrates the diversity and quality of short films. Kinoatelje is joining this nationwide initiative for the second time and is expanding it to the Miela Theater in Trieste, where a special program for adults will be showcased. The event is organized in the spirit of the cross-border film festival Tribute to Vision and in anticipation of the upcoming European Capital of Culture GO! 2025. The main initiators and co-organizers of this national event are the FeKK Short Film Festival and the Kino Otok – Isola Cinema Festival, with its short film section Video na plaži. For the cross-border event in Trieste, Kinoatelje is collaborating with the ShorTS International Film Festival from Trieste, while the event is supported by the Slovenski klub, which has also joined the initiative.

Following the screenings, discussions with the filmmakers will take place. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Simon Intihar, Karin Likar, Miha Možina, and Hannah Koselj Marušič. Short Films for the Longest Night: Line Rider (Simon Intihar, Slovenia, Documentary, 2023) – Italian premiere Three Little Birds (Tri tičice, Zarja Menart, Slovenia/Croatia, Animated, 2024) The Sea Between Us (Morje med nama, Lun Sevnik, Slovenia/Czech Republic/Croatia, Fiction, 2024) – Subtitles by UNDERLIGHT Evelyn Dewald; in collaboration with Alpe Adria Cinema - Trieste Film Festival VEL_VET_VEL Festival Film (Miha Možina, Slovenia, Experimental, 2024) – Italian premiere O GÜN BU GÜNDÜR, UÇUYORUM (Aylin Gökmen, Turkey/Switzerland, 2023) (Un)Lucky Day (Ne)srečen dan, Karin Likar, Slovenia, Animated, 4') All films will be screened with Italian subtitles. A Rich and Varied Program This year’s Night of Short Films features four thematic categories, catering to children, youth, and adult audiences. For the first time, the Association of Slovenian Animated Film (D’SAF!) is participating, presenting animated films for children and young audiences. As in previous years, the Night of Short Films will take place in more than ten venues within the Art Cinema Network of Slovenia, including the Nova Gorica Cultural Center and the Slovenian Cinematheque in Ljubljana. Screenings are free of charge, and details about individual programs can be found on the websites of participating cinemas.
