As part of the project ‘A thousand years of history at the centre of Europe: Borgo Castello, crossroads of peoples and cultures’, the historian Marco Mantini, an expert on the Great War, will discuss the complex dynamics of memory, the social and sociological aspects of ’ battlefield tourism’, a complex and at the same time fascinating phenomenon that affected the Isonzo area in the 1920s and 1930s, when Gorizia, Monte Sabotino, Monte San Michele and Redipuglia in particular became essential stops on the so-called “pilgrimages” made by veterans and the families of the fallen.
A journey through memory, history, tourism and Gorizia's indissoluble link with the First World War.
