Belo and Nozno

Belo e Nozno

Visit Belo, a typical village in Brda, the Pungart hill and the ruins of an early medieval fortress, Nozno and the late Gothic Church of Saints Peter and Paul.

Take some time to walk around Belo, once a typical Brda village, which is today only resembled by two concrete memorial pillars. During the First World War, the whole village was turned into a hospital, so a road was built to it from neighbouring Nozno. The Pungart hill rises above Belo, where the ruins of a tower with a rectangular floor plan can be seen. It was intended as a fortified dwelling in the early Middle Ages. Nozno is also worth a visit, with its late Gothich Church of St Peter and Paul on the nearby hill. The presbytery and part of the nave are Gothic, while the western part of the nave and the bell tower are late Baroque. A castle with towers probably stood on this site in the 14th century, owned by the feudal lords of the Orson family of Gorizia.
