Visit this enchanting place of worship in Pulfero, in the Natisone Valleys.
An outstanding and evocative place of worshipThe cave of San Giovanni d'Antro has offered a shelter to the native population since the antiquity and it has became a religious place since the 8th century.
You came in the cave from a fortify entrance, after come up over 100 steps. In its heart you will discover a chapel and a wooden altar of the 18th century of Slovenian school, housing some statues of the 16th century ascribed to Giovanni Martini workshop.
The cave can be visited for some hundreds of meters and shows chalky formations in steady evolution.
A legend tells that the longobardo queen Teolinda found shelter in the cave and won the siege of Unni flinging the last sack of grain over the soldiers, convincing, in that way, Attila that they had still a lot of provisions.
