De Martiis Collection - Palazzo de Nordis

Palazzo de Nordis offers visitors a permanent avant-garde Visitors Centre and the Collection of the De Martiis family. The exhibition itinerary set up on the first and second floors, “tells the story of its creator, Giancarlo De Martiis, in the development of a path through 20th-century art that reveals itself in both abstract and figurative styles".
Here then a few small, but significant, impressionist testimonies: in particular, two beautiful pastels by Henri de Toulouse Lautrec stand out. The Collection takes us back to Paris - one hundred years later - with a gift to Edouard Pignon, prominent exponent of La Nouvelle École de Paris. Another beautiful nucleus of the Collection is linked to the informal language with some notable names such as Karel Appel Victor Vasarely, Sebastian Matta, Graham Sutherland.
There is a significant presence of Italian artists in the Collection, starting from two extraordinary paintings by the Friuli born Afro Basaldella, continuing with Virgilio Guidi, Mario Sironi, Emilio Vedova. To close the review of Italian artists are three influential authors of 20th-century art such as Tancredi Parmeggiani, Giuseppe Santomaso and Zoran Music.
The collector’s attentive gaze then widens towards the figure of Pravoslav Kotík, a highly representative artist from the Czech Republic. Finally, the collector’s most recent passion towards some paintings attributable to the avant-garde artists of the Eastern countries of the early 20th century.
