Grado’s Baptistery

Visit the Basilica of Santa Eufemia in Grado and the adjacent early Christian Baptistery.

Grado's early-Christian Baptistery, next to the 6th-century St. Euphemia's Basilica, is of octagonal shape. It was built by Probinus (569-571) from Benevento, as is proven by the front slab on the altar, where his monogram is distinguished by doves and peafowl.

Inside you can admire a bright hall that contains the rebuilt hexagonal Baptismal font; and on the walls a mosaic, reintegrated in its clearest parts.
