Petrarca and Piccolomini Museum

Visit the museum and its collections about the life and works of Francesco Petrarca and Enea Silvio Piccolomini, who was Bishop of Trieste and later became Pope under the name Pius II.

The Petraca and Piccolomini Museum of Trieste preserves a bibliographic and iconographic collection concerning the life of the 14th century writer Francesco Petrarca and of Enea Silvio Piccolomini, bishop of Trieste and later Pope, with the name Pious II (1405 - 1464).

At present, it makes up the richest collection of Petrarca's editions preserved in Italy. The Petrarchesco and Piccolomineo museum contains printed volumes, ancient manuscripts, incunables (early printed books by printing presses during the second half of the XV century, archive documents, prints, drawings, paintings, miniatures, plasters, medals, etc. regarding the writer from Arezzo and Pope Pius II.
