Trieste Jewish Cemetery

An overgrown labyrinth dating back to the mid-19th century, preserving the memories of the Jewish community of Trieste.

The Trieste Jewish Cemetery is a very impressive place dating from the mid nineteenth century. Memories of the Jewish community in Trieste are gathered from stone engravings. The cemetery resembles an overgrown labyrinth immersed in silence and in the shadow of dense and tangled vegetation.
Many tombstones bear the Star of David and other Jewish symbols. You will not find flowers on the tombs but pebbles, a typical custom in Jewish tradition.
