You are invited to explore the hidden corners of the northern Karst plateau, this merciless red earth blown by the Karst wind... Experience the history of the surroundings and the traditions, the life of the people of the Karst past and present.
We will start the day with a walk with an Austro-Hungarian soldier through a World War I tunnel dug more than 100 years ago in the fight to defend the Karst territory from the Italians. Here we will read a letter written by a soldier from the front to his family and feel the history of the environment and the conditions on the battlefield at that time.
We will climb to the highest peak of the Karst plateau, where we will have a view of Gorizia, the Karst, the Vipava Valley, the Friulian Plain and the Adriatic Sea.
Lunch will be served in a local village inn, where you will be served local seasonal food and wine.
We'll take an afternoon drive through remote Karst villages and take in the views of the Adriatic Sea and the Gulf of Trieste. An educational pampering session at an herb farm awaits. We will be welcomed in the courtyard with a surprise. A knowledgeable hostess will guide us into the world of herbalism, healthy living and taking care of your own body, showing us some massage techniques for relaxation.
We will then walk through the herb garden and smell the herbs that grow from this unforgiving red earth under the scorching Mediterranean sun. Is this the secret of the tranquillity of Carpathian life?
The stone villages, the houses clustered together by the storm and walled with high walls, invite you to a glass of wine and a feta of primordial cured meats... so we'll finish the day at the farmhouse with a tasting of local delicacies and Teran wine.
