Negovan Nemec Sculptural Atelier

Sculptural inspirations of Miren Kras.

One of the most romantic aerial views of Slovenia is from above the hills of Bilje. Here, you can immediately feel the serene side of the world. The atelier of academic sculptor Negovan Nemec is surrounded by the hills full of vineyards. Perhaps the nature that surrounded this artist, has inspired him to make living stone from the marble of Carrara, which were polished to perfection. The legacy of Negovan nemeec, who said goodbye to this world at the peak of his creative life, is managed by his wife Nelida Nemec and KUD Negovan Nemec that organise workshops for painters, music and literary meetings and other artistic gatherings at the atelier. 

The opus of creativity which was left behind by Negovan Nemec, is exceptional. The first cycle of his works incorporates the motif of shields as war symbols that protect life. In his next period, he focused on organic forms. His artistic signature includes live or white stone from the marble of Carrara. Nemec’s relationship to life and work is reflected in the complete and clean form of his sculptures. His atelier now permanently displays his sculpting artwork. Negovan Nemec is the author of many abstract public Monument of Peace, dedicated to the national liberation struggle in the Primorska region. Thus, he personally impacted the Goriška region on both sides of the Soča River.
