Austro-Hungarian Military Cemetery Loče

Austro-Hungarian Military Cemetery Loče

The Austro-Hungarian cemetery at Loce near Tolmin is the resting place of over 3,000 soldiers who died in the battles between Vodel and Krno.

In 1916, a military cemetery was arranged at Loče near Tolmin for the Austro-Hungarian soldiers who had fallen in the battles fought in the area between Mt. Vodel and Mt. Krn. Among them were also Italian and German soldiers, but were transferred by the Italians, or the Germans respectively, in the years 1938–39. Concreate headstones are symbolically placed across the cemetery and do not mark the actual graves. Only special stone headstones mark the actual graves. In the centre of the cemetery stands a monument in the form of a pyramid. It is dedicated to the fallen soldiers of the 30th Infantry Regiment of the Imperial-and-Royal Army (KuK IR n. 30). More than 3,000 fallen soldiers rest in this cemetery.
