Austro-Hungarian Military Cemetery, Prosecco/Prosek
The Austro-Hungarian Cemetery is located near Park 97 and the centre of Prosecco/Prosek. There are more than 5,000 graves of soldiers who were transferred here from various former cemeteries on the Soča Front.
The military cemetery at Prosecco/Prosek is considered one of the most important Austro-Hungarian cemeteries in Italy. It is situated at the bottom of a karst doline and is accessible by a descending staircase. Mortal remains from other nearby cemeteries were transferred to this one, so that altogether about 5,000 Austro-Hungarian soldiers who fell on the Kras of Trieste and Gorizia are buried in the Prosecco cemetery, including the ones from the former cemeteries in Doberdò del Lago/Doberdob and Piedimonte/Podgora (Mt. Calvario/Kalvarija).
