Tabor Castle in Vipava

Tabor Castle in Vipava

The mighty castle, together with the picturesque Baumkircher tower across the Vipava River, served as an impenetrable defence against the invasion of the Turks.

Tabor Castle in Vipava

In close proximity to the largest spring of the Vipava River, two tower courts were erected. In the 15th century they were additionally fortified and expanded to protect the populace from the Turkish incursions. The enceinte is fairly well preserved. The most picturesque part of the castle is the tower next to the bridge spanning the Vipava River, referred to as the Baumkircher Tower. This is the birth place of the famous Baron Andreas Baumkircher who went on to become a highly skilled soldier, taking over the command over the mercenary troops of the Emperor Frederick III.
