Avgust Černigoj Gallery in Lipica
Enter a world of constructivism and timeless art.
Avgust Černigoj was an outstanding fine artist and the sole Slovenian artist to have studied at the renowned Bauhaus Art School in Weimar, Germany. There, he came in contact with artists like Walter Gropius, Paul Klee, Vasilij Kandinski, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy and Oskar Schlemmer.
After returning to Ljubljana, he became the founder of constructivism in Slovenia and was one of the most visible representatives of the historical avant-garde in the Slovenian fine arts, always one step ahead of the times. He was also a colleague and friend of the Slovenian poet Srečko Kosovel.
He spent the final years of his extraordinarily creative life in the Lipica Stud Farm, in the midst of the green meadows, in the company of the magnificent white Lipizzan horses. This is was what compelled him to leave to the Lipica Stud Farm his extraordinary opus of 1,358 art works. A selection of works is exhibited in the Avgust Černigoj Gallery which was designed, in the spirit of the artist, by the Novi kolektivizem group.
The gallery tour is included in the tour of the stud farm.
