Marjan Miklavec Museum

In Gradišče, Sežana the late painter Marjan Miklavec converted the old Štolfa's farm house into a museum and thus added another pearl to the secret treasures of Sežana and the Karst. On the ground floor, there is an ethnological collection of agricultural tools, a fireplace, household and other objects. Upstairs, there is a large gallery of paintings by Marjan Miklavec, with an emphasis on the architectural heritage of the Karst villages – the houses, barns, stone portals, wells and the picturesque nature.

He chose watercolours, pen drawings and paintings with soil to tell his story. The veduta of Dutovlje painted with this technique was exhibited in the Louvre in Paris.

During his artistic and cultural career Marjan Miklavec published two books: Monografija Marjana Miklavca (‘The Monography of Marjan Miklavec’) and Ponos Krasa (‘Pride of the Karst’), and they are both displayed in the exhibition.

The museum with a gallery and ethnological collection is opened for individual visitors or groups, and there can held exhibitions, presentations of books, calendars, as well as painting colonies and cultural and musical events.
