The two "Heads of Character" by the sculptor Franz Xaver Messerschmidt owned by the Fondazione Palazzo Coronini Cronberg are the only evidence in Italy of the series of works that made the artist famous throughout the world. Probably created to exorcise the demons he felt persecuted by, the “Heads of Character” represent a wide range of human expressions. The project aims to make Messerschmidt's works one of the main attractions of GO! 2025 by making them part of the urban environment of the two cities, through artistic reproductions that will trace a path leading to the discovery of the originals and their history at Palazzo Coronini. Workshops dedicated to schools, popular brochures on Messerschmidt and his works, an illustrated children's book, and the improvement of accessibility will help to spread knowledge of the artist to different targets.
The two sculptures, in an oversized format, will be placed on a piasentina stone base and installed in two outdoor urban locations in Nova Gorica and Gorizia. They will serve as landmarks with which visitors can interact. Each sculpture will include a QR code leading to a text in Italian, English, and Slovenian, providing additional information on the history of the Character Heads.
