39th Recital of Prešeren's Poetry

On the opening day, 8 February, the traditional recital of Prešeren's poetry will take place at Bevkov trg at 12:00.

The traditional recital, which came to Nova Gorica in 2016, is held in cooperation with the Association of Dramatic Artists of Slovenia, SNG Nova Gorica, GO! 2025 and the JSKD regional branch office in Nova Gorica, and will ensure that the rhymes of Slovenian greatest poet, France Prešeren, will be heard in Bevkov trg on 8 February at noon sharp. The recital will take place on the GO! 2025 stage as part of the opening ceremonies of the European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia. 

Prešeren's poetry will be performed simultaneously in several Slovenian cities. ZDUS members will also pay tribute to the Slovenian cultural holiday with a poetry recital in Ljubljana's Prešeren Square and Maribor's Castle Square. The Ljubljana recital will be broadcasted by Program Ars and TV Slovenia 1.

In Bevkov trg, poetry will be recited by actors and actresses from the SNG Nova Gorica, members of ZDUS and their guests, while the microphone is open to random passers-by. There will also be a poem performed by the singers of the Ardeo Vocal Group. 

The event began 39 years ago in Ljubljana as a protest, as part of the struggle for Slovenian cultural autonomy within the former Yugoslavia. It was created as a response against the intentions of former politicians to create a single Ministry of Culture in the area of the former common state, thus diminishing the power of the Slovenian word and state-building. Today, this event is street theatre and a celebration of the Slovenian word.
