Alexander Gadjiev: Meeting Point

Alexander Gadjijev will combine the charm of the Solkan Bridge, the iconic Europe Square and the sublime tranquillity of the Sveta Gora Basilica in two concert evenings.

The piano virtuoso and musical ambassador of the European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia is preparing a unique tribute to his home region. Alexander Gadjijev will combine the charm of the Solkan Bridge, the iconic Europe Square and the sublime tranquillity of the Sveta Gora Basilica in two concert evenings.

The evening offers an unusual concept of chamber and symphonic music. The first part, featuring a more intimate program of chamber works, will be performed by Alexander together with outstanding musical friends at a picturesque spot beneath the arches of the Solkan Bridge. The audience will follow them via a live broadcast at Europe Square, where the symbolic highlight of the evening will take place in the second part of the concert – a performance of Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, Op. 80. This magnificent work for piano, vocal soloists, choir, and orchestra is inspired by a text celebrating the universal unity of all arts, and in the elevated musical expression of its vocal part, one can hear echoes of the composer’s more famous European anthem – Ode to Joy.

Programme: chamber works by J. Brahms, F. Schubert, O. Respighi, M. Kogoj

L. van Beethoven, Fantasy for piano, vocal soloists, mixed choir and orchestra, Op. 80
