Andy Warhol. Beyond Borders

The Palazzo Attems Petzenstein in Gorizia will host an important art exhibition as part of the GO! 2025 series of events, promoted by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region on the occasion of Nova Gorica - Gorizia European Capital of Culture.

Another great exhibition will enrich the programme of events of ‘GO!2025’, the event conceived and promoted by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region on the occasion of GO! 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia, European Capital of Culture. From 20 December 2024 to 4 May 2025 Palazzo Attems Petzenstein, in Gorizia, will host the great exhibition ‘Andy Warhol. Beyond Borders'. The project highlights the path of one of the greatest protagonists of Pop Art, taking the public to the heart of the cultural and artistic revolution that Warhol was able to embody.

With 180 works, the exhibition traces the artistic career and life of the great American artist, as well as the founding themes of his aesthetics, starting from his training with his experience as an illustrator in advertising and fashion, two worlds that profoundly influenced his career and strategies as a Pop artist. The exhibition explores themes such as fashion, music, cinema and consumerism: these key aspects not only marked Warhol's oeuvre, but continue to be key elements of contemporary art. The iconic Campbell's Soup, Flowers and Marilyn series, along with portraits of celebrities such as Jackie Kennedy, Mohammed Ali, Grace Kelly and even Superman and Mickey Mouse, show how the artist was able to transform mass culture into timeless icons. The exhibits come from European collections, as well as numerous magazines from the 1950s and a large issue of Interview magazine, dozens of vinyl record covers, videos and photographs.

The visitor will also have the opportunity to explore two multimedia installations in the ‘music’ section: the legendary 1966 multimedia event - The Exploding Plastic Inevitable’ featuring Nico and Lou Reed's Velvet Underground; and the evocative ‘Silver Clouds’, a room populated by helium-inflated silver cushions floating in the air, creating a playful and interactive atmosphere, a symbol of Warhol's visionary genius.

The exhibition reveals Warhol's central role in making popular culture a legitimate and influential artistic theme, transforming iconic images and consumer objects into works of artistic value. Warhol tackled symbols of American society, such as the Campbell's Soup label or the Coca-Cola logo, elevating them to new art forms, destined to enter the public's everyday life and art galleries, breaking down the barriers between high art and commercial art. This approach made Warhol an absolute innovator, capable of anticipating the dynamics of a society increasingly oriented towards media and consumption.

Andy Warhol. Beyond Borders’ is an immersive journey, designed to offer each visitor a visually and emotionally impactful experience that transcends the boundaries of time and culture, and invites one to explore the world with the same curiosity and openness that characterised Warhol himself.
