Bor Zuljan - 16th century improvisations

Project Prečkanja/Sconfinamenti

Bor Zuljan, lute

With his unique approach he will add a unique historical aspect to the concerts of the Festival of Crossings - Sconfinamenti. Described as "the revolutionary of the lute" (Le Soir), Bor Zuljan has mastered early, contemporary and traditional lute. He is dedicated to reviving forgotten improvisation techniques, playing styles and instruments.

Artistic director of the early music festival Flores Musicae. Published a critical edition of Gorzanis' second book for lute. Recorded the award-winning album La barca del mio amore with La Lyra and Pino De Vittorio. The album Toutes les nuits (duo Dulces Exuviae) won the Diapason d'Or and was selected as Gramophone Recording of the Month. He is currently writing his dissertation on improvisation on the lute in the 16th century at the University of Tours. From autumn 2023 he will be professor of lute and basso continuo at the Scuola di Musica Claudio Abbado in Milan.

The project is funded by the European Union under the Small Project Fund GO! 2025 of the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia Programme 2021-2027, managed by the EGTC GO.
