A year-long travelling film retrospective will pay tribute to Franco Basaglia. The programme will tour various towns across the border regions, throughout Slovenia and beyond, featuring rarely seen archival footage of his work as well as full-length films addressing mental health.
We begin on 23 May 2025 at the Slovenian Cinematheque in Ljubljana, and continue between 4 and 8 June at the Kino Otok film festival in Izola. The journey then takes us to Trate on 11 June, as part of Marko Cavallo's path through Slovenia.
With the Traveling Cinema Soča, Kino Basaglia will also appear in the Basaglia Park in Gorizia on 13, 14 and 15 June, coinciding with the arrival of Marko Cavallo in the city. In July, the program continues at Kino Istra in Koper and at the Silvan Furlan Open-Air Cinema in Nova Gorica.
The autumn leg of the journey, from 12 to 17 September, takes us to Trieste, where Kino Basaglia is hosted by the I mille occhi festival. The year concludes with two October programs at the Slovenian Cinematheque in Ljubljana.
The retrospective will also include discussions, round tables, and the presentation of the first Slovenian collection of writings by Franco Basaglia: Up Close, Nobody Is Normal (Založba /*cf.).
