Tribute to a Vision Cross-border Film Festival

Tribute to a Vision Cross-border Film Festival

A lively events at the 25th edition of the film festival.

The cross-border film festival Poklon Vizija (Homage to the Vision), which Kinoatelje is organising in cooperation with numerous partners, will continue to permeate the Gorizia region with socially engaged cinema by renowned and young filmmakers in 2024. This year, we will mark the 25th anniversary of the Darko Bratina Award at the festival, which carries a message about the transformative, humanistic and poetic power of cinematic images.

On the opening night of the cross-border film festival Homage to Vision on Tuesday, 8 October, at 19.30 at the Cultural Centre in Nova Gorica, we will watch the film Salvation for Beginners (122', slo/sub, ita) by Slovenian director Sonja Prosenc, in the presence of the filmmaking team. The film is also a Slovenian Oscar nominee for Best International Feature Film. On Thursday, 10 October, at 20.00, the Darko Bratina Award Ceremony will take place at the Gorizia Film House - Palazzo del Cinema.

It is a great honour for us that this year's 25th Darko Bratina Award goes to the French film director Nicolas Philibert, whose rich oeuvre offers us a vision of a world where open dialogue and the most liberated otherness constantly meet. A selected filmography will be presented at the festival, and after the award ceremony, Adamant (Sur l'Adamant, 2023, 109', fr / sub ita, slo) will be screened, a film that raises questions about the stigmatisation of mental illness. It won the Golden Bear at the 73rd International Film Festival of the European Union, among others. The film was awarded the Golden Bear at the 73rd 73rd Berlin Film Festival. The award is presented on World Mental Health Day and in the centenary year of the birth of Franco Basaglia, a visionary who revolutionised psychiatry, starting in the psychiatric hospital in Gorizia, where Basaglia Park is still in operation today.

In the spirit of expanding the programme, which is taking place in the context of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025, and with the desire to bring groundbreaking authors to our region, we have expanded the programme in 2023 with the Visionaries section. The aim is to highlight bold and innovative works by European directors. This year, these are the authors of one short film, one fiction and one documentary feature.
