Chemnitz marked 40 years of European cultural cooperation.
In recent days, representatives of GO! 2025 joined colleagues from Chemnitz 2025 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the European Capital of Culture programme.
The event featured the presentation of a white paper with 40 recommendations for the future of the ECoC programme beyond 2034, shaped by the experience of 64 past, present and future ECoC cities.
Main focus areas:
- strengthening European cooperation,
- simplifying the selection and monitoring process,
- ensuring long-term programme implementation,
- improving the exchange of experience.
As Stojan Pelko, programme director of European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica - Gorizia, emphasized:
"We, the cross-border region of Nova Gorica and Gorizia, believe in such crossings of the border of possible – in order to reach the unknown, in order to reach the other."
The meeting in Chemnitz marked another important step toward building a strong European cultural community grounded in collaboration, shared vision, and openness to difference.
