At the Frankfurt Book Fair, Europe Square/Piazza Transalpina, a documentary on smuggling and an immersive video of Gorizia and Nova Gorica
The Europe Square/Piazza Transalpina will come to life with an art and video installation at the Frankfurt Book Fair from 16 to 20 October. In the Italian pavilion of the Frankfurt Book Fair, visitors will be able to "immerse" themselves in the experience of the border in a space dedicated to GO! 2025 and furnished by the EGTC GO in cooperation with the FVG Region.
In this space, the video suggestions linked to the border, and to its overcoming, will be interwoven with the words of the writers, to restore those two halves of a circle, divided, but united, Gorizia and Nova Gorica, two cities located where the easternmost corner of the Latin world meets the Slavic world. Gorizia, a thousand-year-old city; Nova Gorica (literally the ‘new Gorizia’), a futuristic city born after the First World War. Two souls, the Latin and the Slavic, that have mingled and clashed and that today, after the tumultuous 20th century, together will become the first cross-border European Capital of Culture, proving that the border that has long been an emblem of division has become a concrete opportunity for development.
As part of the Pordenonelegge literary festival, a press conference on Thursday 19 September presented the programme of events for GO! 2025, which is being organised in cooperation with the FVG Region at the Frankfurt Book Fair, where Italy is the guest of honour.
The symbol of the GO! 2025 project in Frankfurt will be the Europe Square/Piazza Transalpina, a common square where the documentary Confessional of the Smugglers by Anja Medved (Kinoatelje) will be played, an immersive video with images of the two Gorizia, created by the videomaker Davide Bernardis using Point Cloud technology, and trailers of the short films of the Corti senza confine competition will be screened.
As part of the official programme of the Frankfurter Buchmesse (16-20 October), the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia will also be promoting several events, including a meeting with the mayors of Nova Gorica and Gorizia and the Regional councillor for Culture. Samo Turel, Rodolfo Ziberna and Mario Anzil will discuss the theme of neighbourhood and neighbouring cultures in the context of GO! 2025.
