April offers a rich programme of events, covering film, dance, graphic arts, sustainability, history, and acoustics. From Staroverci ancient beliefs to furry infants-bats, this month also heralds the next edition of Stop the City!, which, much like the grand opening of the European Capital of Culture, will energize our twin cities.
From 2 to 4 April, the Invisible Women project will host a series of lectures, exhibitions, and workshops, giving central stage to women's voices. Among the contributors will be directors Urška Djukić and the Štiglic Award winner Nadja Velušček. On 3 April, Gorizia will see the premiere of Nekoč v Posočju (Once Upon a Time in the Soča Valley), a film by Ema Kugler dedicated to Staroverci folk traditions. The film aligns well with the opening of the Secret Wisdom exhibition at Vogrsko Manor, where, starting 23 April, a permanent ethnological collection will be on display. Spring also marks the beginning of sculpture installations and presentations on both sides of the border, kicking off with the unveiling of Impulse for the Soča by Boštjan Kavčič on 10 April in Kanal ob Soči.
This season is the perfect time to explore the oil paintings of artist and printmaker Zoran Mušič, whose collection will open at Štanjel Castle on 12 April. The Aerowaves Spring Forward Festival, running from 23 to 26 April, will bring together an international lineup of performers. From 24 April, a sound sculpture at Rihemberk Castle will let visitors experience the hidden world of bats through sound, and the next day, 25 April, we will inaugurate the Ingeborg Bachmann Dome near Europe Square.
On 1 May, the second edition of Stop the City! will feature the March for Europe. Over nine days, we will experience an exciting program—ranging from top-tier artistic performances to the local traditional table football calcetto. You can follow the full schedule on our official website, where all event details will be available: go-borderless.eu.
