Ready to live a unique experience? We are waiting for you at the "Digital Museum of Land Reclamation" at the Idrovora Sacchetti in the Municipality of Staranzano, an innovative project that explores the history of land reclamation in the Isonzo Plain.
The Idrovora Sacchetti ( water-scooping machine) represents in fact, one of the key installations that have allowed the reclamation of the area of the Lower Isonzo River since the 1930s. Starting from the end of the 19th century, the conformation of these lands has changed dramatically thanks to a series of projects that have radically transformed the territory, which is crossed by many marshy areas: the hydraulic and land reorganisation of the territory and the creation of a network of irrigation channels have led to a significant improvement in the hygienic and sanitary conditions of the population.
A series of interactive touch screens are available in the museum, and thanks to virtual reality, visitors can also explore the environments of the wetlands and experience first-hand the transformations that took place thanks to the hydraulic works.
The creation and installation of the Digital Museum of Land Reclamation is part of the extensive "CariGO GREEN" project of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Gorizia, which aims to enhance and promote the cultural, historical and landscape heritage of the entire territory of the former Province of Gorizia through highly innovative technological and sustainable development projects.
