EGTC GO meets MangoMilk production for a documentary on peace in Europe

Between Thursday, Sept. 19 and Saturday, Sept. 21, EGTC GO hosted Australian filmmaker Benjamin Wiesner, among the founders of Mango Milk Production, an Australian independent production company. Mango Milk production's main focus is Europe and the economic, ideal and values crisis the continent is going through as a result of tragic and uncontrollable events by its citizens, among them: the Covid-19 pandemic, the migrant crisis and the war in Ukraine.

Their new documentary “Europe” will tell the story of a group of pilgrims, walkers, the merely curious and intellectual who follow the cultural routes of Europe to discover whether the European ideal survives in the hearts of its inhabitants, or whether we are doomed to repeat the history and mistakes of the past. The central themes of the documentary are freedom of movement, the discovery of stories and places through the stories of those who live them, and cultural exchanges between European citizens. A journey of discovery and rediscovery that is possible, thanks in part to the presence of several cultural walking trails, such as the Walk of Peace between Italy and Slovenia.

As part of the Beyond Walk of Peace project, financed by the Interreg VI A Italy-Slovenia Program and in which EGTC GO is a project partner, EGTC GO staff organized a number of meetings between the Australian director and several intellectuals, authors, historians and citizens of Gorizia including Adriano Ossola creator and curator of the Festival èStoria, Anton Spacapan Vončina set designer and writer, Andrea Bellavite intellectual and writer expert in cultural routes and director of the Basilica of Aquileia, Robert Princic and Matjaž Cetrtič, producers and owners of two Collio wineries that collaborate across borders, Giuseppe Longo director of Kinemax and curator of the Sergio Amidei Set Design Award, Mattia Cason writer, walker and manager of the Eas Europe project, and Roberto Kusterle, internationally renowned artist and photographer.

Among the various visits, EGTC GO staff also introduced Benjamin Wiesner to the area's characteristic sights such as the Basilica of Aquileia and its mosaics, the Collio/Brda, Gorizia's historic center, and the Piazza Transalpina.

Next appointment in 2025, when Benjamin will return to the Gorizia region to film the stories of those who live in the cross-border territory and whom he got to meet and get to know during this first visit.
