AROUND: Soundscape & Sound Recording Workshop

An immersive sound recording workshop in Caporetto to explore and capture the region's unique soundscape.
Explore the soundscape of Caporetto with audio recordings and design thinking techniques in a creative sound-art workshop!
An immersive experience exploring the soundscape of Caporetto/Kobarid, led by expert lecturers in Sound Recording & Design Thinking.
During this itinerant walk participants will explore the environment through active listening and sound recording, collecting materials for the creation of digital and site-specific sound works for the AROUND exhibition project. The workshop will stimulate creative solutions through the use of design thinking techniques, offering participants tools to transform sound into an experimental and artistic language.
AROUND's first traveling workshop is an immersive experience dedicated to soundscape recording (sound recording) and storytelling co-design. Guided by a Soundscape & Sound Recording expert, participants will explore Kobarid (Caporetto) through sound, gathering acoustic suggestions that will enrich the project's phygital journey.
PATH STAGES 1. Italian Ossuary / Mother Church of St. Anthony of Padua Built in 1938, the ossuary holds the remains of more than 7,000 Italian soldiers who fell during World War I. The church above, with its commanding position, provides an evocative starting point for the workshop, amid the solemn silence of memory and the sounds of the city. 2. Napoleon Bridge over the Soča River A striking stone bridge spanning the emerald waters of the Soča River.
According to tradition, it was built during Napoleon's campaigns. The sound of the river, the wind between the gorges, and the echo of the bridge itself will be key elements in exploring the narrative potential of the soundscape. 3. Kozjak Waterfall One of Slovenia's most iconic waterfalls, hidden in a rocky gorge and accessible via a nature trail. The roar of the water, the sounds of the surrounding forest, and the unique acoustics of the cave will provide evocative sound materials for recording and storytelling work.
EXPECTED ACTIVITIES Introduction to sound recording techniques in the field. Brainstorming and narrative co-design using design thinking techniques. Active listening and analysis of the sound environment. Recording sessions at each stage of the course. PRACTICAL ADVICE The trail is of medium-easy difficulty, but comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for dirt trails are recommended.
In case of light rain, bring waterproof jacket, cover for electronic equipment and shoes with good grip. Carry water and protein snacks. Bring charged cell phone (powerbanck is best) and headphones. The workshop is free and limited in number (max 20 participants). NB: entrance to the waterfall and museum are not included in the price.
