èStoria 2025 – 21st International History Festival

The èStoria Festival proposes itself as a point of reference for historical and historiographical discussion and debate in a problematic key on the great changes that have marked the course of history, from its origins up to the closest present day. The aim of the 2025 edition of èStoria is to focus on the theme of the ‘City’, declining it as usual with a historiographical but also interdisciplinary approach, which - through a rigorous historical perspective entrusted to the most authoritative voices on the historical and cultural scene - interweaves literature, cinema, music, art, anthropology, psychology, philosophy, economics and other subjects. Different aspects of social history, economic history, gender history, cultural history, to name but a few of the fields of study, which are usually examined during the Festival, will be explored.

This will be a special edition, considering the historic appointment of Nova Gorica - Gorizia European Capital of Culture 2025.

The theme will be divided into two main strands:

-The Long Life. A chronological path dedicated to the fundamental urban centres from prehistory to the 20th century.

-The cities of today and of the future. A reflection on the many facets of an evolution of the latest urban planning thought. and in four further sections:

-La Storia in Testa, dedicated to new publications and historical anniversaries of particular interest.

-èHistory FVG, the section dedicated to the territory with the aim of highlighting the rich regional heritage of associations and centres that are committed to the cultural and social sphere.

-èStoria Giovani (theme of the 2015 edition) will continue to be the section of meetings and activities dedicated to the world of youth, organised by Gorizia's university and youth associations with the coordination of the Punto Giovani of the Municipality of Gorizia.

-èStoriabus, the section devoted to historical and cultural excursions aimed at enhancing the territory and organised on board buses with thematic itineraries.

-èStoria Università, inaugurated with great success during the 2023 edition: events will be organised, especially designed for a university audience, in cooperation with the universities in the area (University of Udine and University of Trieste) and other prestigious university bodies, such as the Institute of History of the University of Vienna, the Department of Historical Studies of the University of Milan, the Department of History of the University of Ljubljana, the Department of Historical, Geographical and Ancient Sciences of the University of Padua, the Department of History of the University of Zagreb.
