Mushrooms in Nova Gorica Region

Mushroom hunting with gourmet tasting.

On 1 December 2024 at 10 a.m. you are invited to attend the traditional educational workshop on the topic of mushrooms entitled Mushrooms in Nova Gorica Region, where you will learn about late autumn mushrooms in the wonderful city forest of Panovec. Mushroom hunting is the most popular family sport in Slovenia, but few people know more than just a handful of species encountered during September and October. All generations of nature lovers are warmly invited to attend mushroom hunting with gourmet tasting! The workshop is suitable for both beginners and experts who would like to extend their knowledge.

PROGRAMME:

• 10 a.m.: gathering and short lecture (10 min) on forest etiquette and safe harvesting. Then we embark on a forest exploration of the fungal world under our feet and all around us.
• 1:00 p.m.: gathering of all mushroom pickers and their collected specimens. We will divide mushrooms by genera and species, talk about their most interesting characteristics and also about medicinal properties and the way they eat, reproduce, and about their additional details (biofluorescence, bioluminescence, biophosphorescence). Katarina will be at your disposal for any questions. Edible and some conditionally edible species will be cleaned together and prepared for cooking in a cauldron over a fire in a mushroom gourmet goulash under the guidance of Žan Žmuc, a top forest-gourmet culinary master.
• 3:00 p.m.: mushroom feast by the fire. During the meal, we will also talk about various recipes that can be prepared with mushrooms in 1001 ways.
• 4:00 p.m.: conclusion and the way home. For fans of the magical forest, we will also have some UV lamps available, with which you can see the mushrooms in a different, magical light in the dark.
• Recommended additional equipment: collection basket, foot, warm clothing and suitable footwear. In case of rain, also waterproof equipment. If desired, also a mat for sitting and a blanket. The latter will be taken care of.

ABOUT THE MENTOR:

Katarina Apostolides has been a passionate researcher of the mushroom world since she was a child. She is a recognized connoisseur of mushrooms in 3 mushroom societies, the founder of the Mycological Museum of Slovenia, and an external collaborator at Gobnjak, the Floravita Institute and other similar organizations in Slovenia and elsewhere. He takes time for mushrooms not only during the day and at night (with a UV light) in the forest, but also at home, under a microscope, where he repeatedly checks certain more complex characteristics of the rarer and new types of mushrooms in Slovenia. She is also the co-author of the bestseller The Last Purple Pale.

Žan Žmuc is top gourmet forest master and connoisseur of forest delicacies, president and pride of the Mushroom and Mycological Society of Ljubljana.

Registration fee: Contribution for participation in the workshop: € 77. Youth up to 12 years old and children accompanied by their parents free of charge. From 13 to 16 years, the price is half price. Single parents: 50% discount on participation with children.
