La lingua virale (THE VIRAL LANGUAGE)

La lingua virale (THE VIRAL LANGUAGE)

Diego Marani's book “la lingua virale,” written in Europanto, a language that combines elements of various European idioms, has inspired a theater workshop for young actors, desired by the director of the Teatro Stabile. The workshop will be led by Silvia Mercuriali, an international artist with experience in major global cultural institutions. Europanto, conceived by Marani as a critique of linguistic purism, reflects the idea that languages are constantly evolving and contaminating, a theme in line with the values of GO! 2025, and will be brought to the stage by the workshop participants.

Diego Marani's book, winner of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Literary Prize, written in Europanto-an invented language that mixes elements of different European languages-caught the attention of the director of the Teatro Stabile, who decided to develop a theater workshop for young actors based on this text. The workshop was led by Silvia Mercuriali, an internationally renowned artist living in London, who has collaborated with prestigious institutions such as the Brisbane Powerhouse (Australia), the Kochi Art Museum (Japan), and the Heritage Fund (United States), as well as numerous projects in the United Kingdom. Europanto, created by Marani as a provocation against linguistic purism, invites us to consider languages as tools that are constantly evolving and open to contamination, without rigid boundaries. This message aligns perfectly with the principles of GO! 2025, a cross-border cultural project, and will be performed on stage under Mercuriali's direction, with the participation of the young actors involved in the workshop.
