Border through Film: Franco Giraldi and his World of Border Stories

A film duet directed by Franco Giraldi will be screened.
On Tuesday, 15 April, at 18:00, the Komen Cultural Centre will screen the film duet, Meja(1996) and Kras (1960), directed by Franco Giraldi.
Born in Komen in 1931 to a Slovenian mother and an Istria father, Franco Giraldi experienced first-hand the complexity of borderlands. He chose Trieste as his city of choice, having grown up there, and then moved to Rome, where he masterfully transferred his experience into the many works of his rich cinematic oeuvre. Giraldi expressed the question of border identity in a respectful yet personal way in his trilogy - Rdeča vrtnica(1973), Šolsko leto (1977) and Meja (1996), which is joined by the short documentary Kras (1960), which testifies to the invaluable historical and cultural meanings that for many years were considered lost. The short documentary film Kras is dedicated to the author's home environment.
Through the mirror of the East/West retrospective - Border through Film and History, the cinema of Slovenia and Italy will shine in full light in 2025. This cinematic journey, created with a wide range of partners, brings to life the rich cultural and historical heritage of the cross-border area. The multiculturalism of Europe will be embodied through the selected films.
All events are free and suitable for both Slovenian and Italian audiences.
