Tribute to Dorica Makuc

In cooperation with the Prvačina Local Community and the Association for the Preservation of the Heritage of the Aleksandrinke, Kinoatelje invites to a special film evening on Women's Day, 8 March, at 18:00, at the Prvačina Cultural Centre.
Under the title Tribute to Dorica Makuc, Kinoatelje organises screening of her films and archive footage of Prvačina, on loan from RTV Slovenija. The footage from the late 1970s shows the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Sokol Society and the meeting between the twin towns on both sides of the border.
The evening will also be an opportunity to revive the connection with the Municipality of Doberdob, a birthplace of the musicians Viljem Gergolet and Zora Černic. On this occasion, there will be a presentation of the new poetry collection Pesmi za Aleksandrinke (Poems for Aleksandrinke) by Darinka Kozinc. At 15:30, heritage lovers will be able to visit the House of Aleksandrinke, which highlights the stories of women who left their homes and went abroad to earn bread. A guided tour will be organised on this occasion, and the evening programme will be enriched by the activists of the Association for the Preservation of the Heritage of the Aleksandrinke. The highlight of the evening will be the screening of the documentary film Žerjavi letijo na jug (Cranes Fly South), made in 1975 by Dorica Makuc, which captured images of the place and the testimonies of some of her fellow countrywomen who returned from Alexandria to their native Vipava Valley. Dorica Makuc's work often emphasised the importance of the little man, his suffering and struggles for a better tomorrow, and she introduced the issues of Slovenian minorities and the people of Primorska into the documentary programme of RTV Slovenija.
Let this also be an opportunity to revive memories of the cinema in Prvačina, where the biggest blockbusters were regularly shown on the big screen, and new friendships and loves were formed.
