Archaeological area of Grado

The restoration work on Piazza Biagio Marin, in the historic center of Grado, unveiled in 1902 the paleochristian remains of the Basilica della Corte, dating back to the 4th century.

The early-Christian remains of the Basilica della Corte, which dates back to the 4th century, were brought to light in 1902, thanks to the renovation works of Piazza Biagio Marin, in the old centre of Grado; at present you can see mosaic floor fragments with geometric patterns and names, some sarcophagi and the walls that outlined the plan of the building.

The area has recently been made accessible thanks to glass footbridges with steel tie rods, which allow to see it better and create a successful combination of ancient and modern.

A few metres away, the square paving brings out the point in which the Baptistery of the Basilica stood, thanks to a white stone perimeter that shows the octagonal plan and the semicircular apse of the Baptistery. In the evening, lighting makes this place extremely charming.
