Cordovado

Visit Cordovado, discover its history and its important monuments: the splendid castle in the medieval village and the ancient Marian sanctuary, a jewel of Baroque art.
A small gem of Western Friuli Cordovado is rich in history and valuable monuments – including a splendid castle set in a medieval village, an ancient Marian shrine, a gem of Baroque art, and an ancient parish dating back to the 15th century – made richer by naturalistic environments that fit harmoniously into a fascinating and primordial itinerary. A land that provided poetical inspiration for great literary figures such as Ippolito Nievo and PierPaolo Pasolini.Cordovado encompasses a large agricultural complex (Curtis) located near the ford on an old branch of the Tagliamento River that the bishops of Concordia fortified in the 12th-13th century, selecting the castle as the seat of ecclesiastical, military and civil powers. Since 2004, the City of Cordovado is officially one of the Borghi più Belli d’Italia and, since 1986, it has been producing a splendid Historical Reenactment named “Palio dei Rioni” every first Sunday in September.
